New Delhi, December  11

Both Houses of Parliament, including the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, were adjourned on Wednesday after heated exchanges between BJP and Opposition members. In the Rajya Sabha, BJP leader JP Nadda reiterated allegations against Congress regarding its alleged links with the George Soros Foundation, while Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge vehemently rejected the claims.

The Lok Sabha witnessed saw opposition MPs on their feet, attempting to raise their concerns. Speaker Om Birla urged MPs to return to their seats and allow the House to function. “Question Hour is significant. Allow the House to function properly. The country wants the House to run. You are disrupting the proceedings,” he said, before adjourning the House until 12 noon. Protests continued, forcing another adjournment until 2 pm, and once more until 3 pm. The session was eventually concluded for the day.

BJP leaders alleged that the Opposition was acting under the influence of external forces, working against national interests. Congress alleged that the BJP is attempting to suppress the Adani issue and avoid discussing it in Parliament.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly criticized the no-confidence motion move, calling the allegations baseless. Addressing the House, Rijiju accused Congress of attacking the Vice President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha to distract from what he termed the “Congress-Soros nexus.” He claimed that the Opposition was echoing the rhetoric of external forces aiming to harm the nation and democracy.

In response, Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge defended the motion, citing constitutional principles and parliamentary traditions. Kharge referred to statements by India’s first Vice President, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, emphasizing the non-partisan role of the Chairman. He argued that Dhankhar’s conduct over the past three years contradicted the dignity of his office, with instances of public praise for the government and remarks aligning with the RSS ideology.

Kharge further alleged that Dhankhar treated Opposition leaders as adversaries, often making objectionable remarks. “Such behavior undermines the position of Chairman,” he said.

The no-confidence motion was formally submitted to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat on Tuesday. The INDIA alliance, comprising Congress, Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Samajwadi Party, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and Rashtriya Janata Dal, justified the motion as a necessary step to preserve parliamentary democracy.
