Chia seeds are oval-shaped seeds usually found in black and white varieties, a product of the chia plant, whereas flax seeds are flatter and bigger than chia seeds, also known as linseeds, mostly of brown and golden varieties and are thought to be found in Southeast Asia.

According to news outlet Healthline, both seeds provide a good source of protein and omega-3 fats, with flax seeds containing higher levels of omega-3s (6,388 mg per ounce) compared to chia seeds (4,915 mg). Flax seeds also provide more copper and potassium, while chia seeds have fewer calories and higher fiber content, as well as more calcium, iron, and phosphorus.

Both seeds contain a good amount of protein and omega-3 fats. An ounce of flax contains 6,388 mg of omega-3s, while the same amount of chia seeds contains 4,915 mg. Both the seeds are rich in nutrients; both are considered good for your heart health, lower your blood sugar level, and provide protection from a variety of cancers, and many more news outlet Healthline said.

Both chia and flax seeds contain good amounts of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Interestingly, several studies have linked that ALA  lowers risk of heart disease.
