The Supreme Court has harshly criticized Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar over his alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal. During a hearing on Thursday, Justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Datta, and Ujjal Bhuyan questioned whether such behavior was suitable for someone working in the Chief Minister’s official residence. The court has postponed Kumar’s bail plea to next Wednesday and issued a notice to the Delhi government regarding his plea, the news outlet Business Standard reported.
Kumar is challenging the Delhi High Court’s July 12 denial of bail, asserting that the allegations against him are false and that his continued custody is unnecessary now that the investigation is complete. The Supreme Court expressed shock at the incident’s details and questioned the significance of Maliwal calling the police helpline during the assault on May 13. Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Kumar, was asked to address these concerns, the news outlet said.
The bench condemned Kumar’s actions, comparing them to those of a ‘goon’ and expressing dismay over how he handled Maliwal’s assault despite her physical condition. The Supreme Court’s severe remarks reflect the seriousness with which it views the case and the high-profile nature of the allegations.
