NASA astronaut Sunita Williams shared a heartfelt Diwali message from the International Space Station (ISS), which was broadcast during the White House’s Diwali celebrations. In the video, Williams conveyed warm Diwali wishes from 260 miles above Earth, highlighting the festival’s significance.

“Greetings from the ISS,” Williams said. “I want to extend my warmest wishes for a Happy Diwali to everyone celebrating today at the White House and around the world. This year, I have the unique opportunity to celebrate Diwali from the ISS.”

Reflecting on her father’s role in preserving cultural traditions, Williams noted how he taught her about Diwali and other Indian festivals. “Diwali is a time of joy as goodness in the world prevails,” she added, expressing appreciation to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for celebrating Diwali with the South Asian community and honoring its contributions to the US.
