The Supreme Court on Wednesday summoned the chief secretaries of Punjab and Haryana, criticizing the absence of legal action against stubble burning in both states. The court has directed the chief secretaries to appear in person and explain their stance on the issue on October 23.New Delhi, October 16

This is not a political matter. If Chief Secretary is acting at somebody’s behest, we will issue summons against them as well. Next Wednesday we are going to physically call Chief Secretary and explain everything. Nothing has been done, same is with Punjab. The attitude is of complete defiance,” the  Supreme Court said, the news outlet Bar and Bench reported.

The Supreme Court noted that despite previous warnings, no prosecutions had been initiated for stubble-burning incidents.
