New Delhi, January 4
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has urged states and the private sector to develop regional and city-level logistics action plans to attract investments and improve last-mile connectivity. The call came during the release of the “Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) 2024” report.
Goyal stressed the importance of adopting green logistics, workforce inclusivity, and leveraging public-private partnerships (PPPs) to strengthen the logistics sector. He also called for skill development and the use of technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics to drive growth.“The logistics sector must adopt the LEAD framework—Longevity, Efficiency, Accessibility, Digitalisation—to prepare India for Viksit Bharat 2047,” Goyal said.
The LEADS 2024 report evaluates logistics performance across four pillars: infrastructure, services, regulatory environment, and sustainability. It highlights state-specific opportunities and ranks regions by performance. Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu emerged as achievers among coastal states, while Haryana and Telangana led landlocked states.
The event also featured the “Logistics Excellence, Advancement, and Performance Shield (LEAPS) 2024” awards, recognizing leaders in logistics services, startups, MSMEs, and institutions. Companies such as Kerry Indev Logistics, DP World Rail Logistics, and Delhivery Limited were among the winners.
Goyal also launched the PM GatiShakti Course, a 15-hour program aimed at enhancing infrastructure planning, hosted on the iGOT Karmayogi platform. The minister unveiled a logistics cost framework developed by NCAER, which uses a hybrid methodology to estimate logistics costs, integrating domestic and EXIM data.
“These initiatives are vital for fostering competitive federalism, promoting sustainability, and making India a global logistics leader,” Goyal said.
