Jammu, September 21
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated on Thursday that his government is committed to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. “This is our commitment in Parliament,” he added. Prime Minister also sharply criticized the Congress and PDP , accusing them of fostering decades of hatred to sustain their political influence. Modi alleged that the same animosity that led to the burning of schools in Kashmir was perpetuated by these parties. “The three families have caused the downfall of Jammu and Kashmir, believing that power and exploitation are their birthright. They have consistently deprived the people of their rightful benefits and contributed only to violence and chaos,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister also targeted the Opposition for their failure to build new schools and for supporting those responsible for burning existing ones. He noted that schools which survived the fires often remained closed for months, depriving children of education.
Modi highlighted his administration’s efforts to address these issues, including the re-enrollment of approximately 50,000 children into schools over the past five years. Additionally, 250 schools are being upgraded to PM Shri Schools, and new colleges have been established.
Speaking in Srinagar and Katra, Modi praised the youth of Jammu and Kashmir for challenging the longstanding political dominance of the region’s ruling families. He also lauded the successful first phase of voting in seven districts, which occurred without violence, and noted high voter turnout rates: over 80% in Kishtwar, 71% in Doda, 70% in Ramban, and 62% in Kulgam. “This is a matter of pride for all of us, showing how the people of Jammu and Kashmir are strengthening India’s democracy,” Modi concluded.
