At least six people were killed, and several others injured in a stampede near Vishnu Niwasam, close to the Tirumala Srivari Vaikuntha Dwara ticketing counter, during the distribution of ‘darshan’ tokens on Wednesday. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu conducted an emergency review meeting, which was attended by State DGP Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, TTD EO Shyamala Rao, District Collector, and the Superintendent of Police. The review focused on the causes of the stampede and measures to prevent future incidents. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragedy. “Pained by the stampede in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover soon. The Andhra Pradesh Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected,” the Prime Minister’s Office posted on social media platform X.
President Droupadi Murmu also extended condolences, saying, “Distressed to know that a stampede in Tirupati led to the loss of life of many devotees. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
