The chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Madhabi Puri Buch,  did not attend a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting on Thursday, citing “some pressing reasons.” This was the second time Buch had been summoned by the PAC, led by Congress leader K.C. Venugopal, for a review of the regulatory body. Venugopal informed reporters that Buch had communicated her inability to travel to Delhi, prompting the committee to postpone the meeting. “Considering her request, we decided to postpone today’s meeting for another date,” he said.

In contrast, BJP members have raised concerns over Venugopal’s unilateral decisions, including the summons of Buch. BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad expressed their intent to discuss the matter with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. “This is a significant issue. His words were ‘suo moto’ decided. How did you decide? The PAC’s role is to deliberate over the CAG report, and we’ve received information indicating that SEBI is not mentioned in the report,” Prasad commented.
