Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed over 51,000 appointment letters to newly appointed youth in government departments during the Rozgar Mela on Tuesday. Addressing the event via videoconferencing, he conveyed his best wishes for Dhanteras and emphasized that this year’s Diwali would be particularly special, marking the first celebration since Lord Ram’s installation in the temple at Ayodhya after 500 years.
“This Diwali is one that generations have awaited, and many have sacrificed for,” Modi said adding that the present generation is fortunate to witness such a momentous occasion. Amid the festive atmosphere, he congratulated the new recruits and wished them well in their government jobs.
The Prime Minister highlighted the government’s legacy of providing permanent jobs to lakhs of youths, mentioning that similar appointment letters were distributed even in states governed by BJP and its allies. He said that in Haryana, a festive atmosphere surrounds the appointment of 26,000 youths by the newly formed government, which has earned a reputation for offering jobs without any expense or recommendations. Modi specifically greeted these 26,000 youths alongside the 51,000 recipients of appointment letters during the Rozgar Mela.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to maximizing employment opportunities for the youth, Modi linked job creation to the government’s infrastructure development initiatives. He pointed to ongoing projects in expressways, highways, railways, ports, airports, and the establishment of new industries as vital contributors to job growth. Modi emphasized that laying water and gas pipelines and setting up new schools, colleges, and universities are also integral to creating new job opportunities while benefiting citizens.
Recalling his recent visit to Vadodara, Gujarat, where he inaugurated an aircraft manufacturing facility for the defense sector, Modi noted that it would directly employ thousands and support MSME industries through the manufacturing of spare parts and equipment. “A single aircraft comprises 15,000 to 25,000 parts,” he explained, highlighting how smaller factories will contribute to fulfilling the demands of larger manufacturing plants, benefiting India’s MSMEs.
He stressed that when launching any scheme, the focus extends beyond direct benefits to citizens, aiming to develop a comprehensive ecosystem for employment generation. Citing the PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana, Modi shared that in the past six months, about 2 crore customers registered for the scheme, with over 9,000 vendors involved, and solar panels installed in more than 5 lakh homes. Plans to create 800 solar villages as models under this initiative were also mentioned, along with training for 30,000 individuals in rooftop solar installation.
Furthermore, Modi said that the Khadi industry has transformed over the last decade, with Khadi Gram Udyog’s business exceeding ₹1.5 lakh crores. He stated that Khadi sales have increased by 400%, benefiting artists and weavers while generating new employment opportunities. He also highlighted the Lakhpati Didi scheme, which provides employment and self-employment opportunities for rural women, noting that over 10 crore women have joined self-help groups in the last decade. “More than 1.25 crore women have already become Lakhpati Didis, making their annual income above ₹1 lakh,” he added.
