In a significant relief for Sadhguru, the Supreme Court on Friday dismissed all legal proceedings against Isha Foundation in a case where a father alleged that his two daughters had been brainwashed into joining the spiritual leader’s ashram in Coimbatore and were denied contact with their family. The Supreme Court ruled that the daughters, Geeta and Lata, were adults living at the ashram of their “own free will” and rejected the plea of unlawful detention.

The court criticised the Madras High Court’s handling of the habeas corpus petition, calling its actions “completely inappropriate,” particularly the ordered police raid on the ashram. It emphasized that since the women were 27 and 24 years old when they joined, no further judicial directions were required. The court clarified that its ruling applies solely to this case, noting the recent charges against a doctor at the ashram for child abuse.
