Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today to demand the expunging of derogatory remarks made against him in the lower house. Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Gandhi said, “I had a meeting with the Lok Sabha Speaker and I informed him about my party’s demand to expunge the derogatory remarks.”

He added that Speaker Birla had assured him that the matter would be examined. “They keep hurling baseless accusations, but we have decided that we will let the House run irrespective of their provocations,” Gandhi stated. Further emphasizing his party’s commitment to constructive debate, Gandhi reiterated, “We want there to be a debate and discussion. There was a commitment for a debate over the Constitution on December 13, and we want that debate to take place.”

The demand for expunging the remarks comes amid a charged political atmosphere in Parliament. Gandhi’s call for a debate underscores his focus on engaging with the legislative process despite ongoing tensions.
