The Punjab Government has mandated the registration of private playway schools as part of its efforts to implement the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Council’s recommendations, announced Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister of Social Security, Women, and Child Development, during a press briefing at Punjab Bhawan on Monday.

Dr. Kaur said that within six months, all playway schools in the state must register with the Department of Social Security, Women, and Child Development. Only registered schools will be allowed to operate. To streamline this process, an online registration system will be set up to ensure transparency and efficiency.

The Minister emphasized that the State-level ECCE Council will oversee the functioning of all registered playway schools. This Council will be chaired by Dr. Kaur herself. The government has also introduced the Navchetna curriculum for children aged 0-3 years and the Aadharshila curriculum for children aged 3-6 years, aimed at enhancing early childhood development through play-based methods rather than traditional book learning.

Dr. Kaur urged parents to ensure that schools are registered before enrolling their children and highlighted the importance of proper facilities, including adequate play areas and CCTV surveillance, in ensuring children’s safety and development.
