Bypolls to four Punjab Assembly seats on Nov 13: Sibin C

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced by-elections for four assembly constituencies in Punjab, scheduled for November 13. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sibin C revealed that polling will be held for Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal (SC), Gidderbaha, and Barnala constituencies, with results to be declared on November 23.

The notification for these by-elections will be issued on October 18, with the last date for filing nominations set for October 25. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on October 28, while candidates have until October 30 to withdraw their nominations.

The total number of eligible voters across the four constituencies is 696,316, with 831 polling stations established, Sibin C reported. For Dera Baba Nanak, there are 193,268 voters with 241 polling stations, while Chabbewal (SC) has 159,254 voters and 205 polling stations. Gidderbaha has 166,489 voters with 173 polling stations, and Barnala has 177,305 voters with 212 polling stations.

With the announcement of the by-elections, the election code of conduct has come into effect in the respective districts—Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Barnala—and will remain in place until November 25. Deputy Commissioners from the four districts have been appointed as District Election Officers for their respective constituencies, and other senior officials have been designated as Returning Officers. CEO Sibin C assured that the by-elections would be conducted transparently and peacefully, with strict adherence to the election code.
