Criticising the Opposition for politicizing his visit to Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud’s residence for Ganpati Puja, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on Tuesday emphasized that those who attempt to divide India cannot embrace the spirit of Ganpati festivities.

Highlighting Ganesh Utsav’s role in India’s independence movement While addressing a gathering in Bhubaneswar,of Odisha, Prime Minister Modi referred to Lokmanya Tilak’s initiative to publicly organize the festival to unite the country and challenge the divisive policies of colonial rulers. He remarked that Ganesh Utsav symbolizes unity, transcending caste and discrimination, with people coming together across societal divisions.

The Prime Minister warned against groups attempting to divide society on the basis of religion and caste. He referenced the controversy surrounding his participation in Ganesh Utsav and the recent seizure of a Lord Ganesha idol in Karnataka, calling such actions a “dangerous mentality” that poisons society. PM Modi urged citizens not to allow these divisive forces to gain ground.

On September 10, Modi attended Ganesh Puja at CJI DY Chandrachud’s residence, sharing a photo of him and the Chief Justice with his wife, Kalpana Das, offering prayers. In an X post, Modi stated, “Joined Ganesh Puja at the residence of CJI, Justice DY Chandrachud Ji. May Bhagwan Shri Ganesh bless us all with happiness, prosperity, and wonderful health.”

Modi also celebrated the success of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, calling it a reflection of women’s empowerment in India. He highlighted that properties are now registered in the names of women, and announced that 30 lakh families had performed Griha Pravesh (housewarming ceremonies), with an additional 15 lakh new beneficiaries receiving approval letters. In just 100 days, funds were transferred to over 10 lakh beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

The Prime Minister described his emotional experience of participating in the Grih Pravesh of a tribal family earlier that day, stating that their happiness and satisfaction were unforgettable. He added that witnessing the transformation in the lives of poor, Dalit, and tribal families inspires him to continue working for the welfare of the nation.
