Chandigarh, November 20

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has justified state’s push for an additional Vidhan Sabha building in Chandigarh, calling it a “serious issue” and asserting Haryana’s right to a separate legislative space. Saini appealed for political unity, urging parties to set aside differences and back the cause. During the ongoing Haryana Assembly session, opposition parties extended unanimous support for the proposal

Previously Punjab’s political parties including the BJP have accused the Centre of favoring Haryana in land allocation. However, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on November 18 dismissed claims that the central government had allocated land in Chandigarh to Haryana. “No land has been allotted to Haryana,” Kataria said at an event, while acknowledging Haryana’s long-standing demand.

Kataria clarified that Haryana’s proposal remains pending, adding, “I can’t comment further, as no decision has been made.”
