The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has proposed a new evaluation model that will incorporate students’ performances from Classes 9, 10, and 11 into their final Class 12 board results. This proposal is detailed in the report titled “Establishing Equivalence across Education Boards,” released in July, the DDN reported. The new model introduces a progressive assessment framework for Classes 10 and 12, suggesting that the academic year be divided into two terms and that marks from earlier classes be integrated into the final Class 12 results.

According to media reports, the weightage of formative and summative assessments will gradually shift as students progress through grades. In Class 9, the assessment split is 7% formative and 30% summative. For Class 10, it’s evenly divided at 50% each, while in Class 11, the ratio shifts to 40% formative and 60% summative. By Class 12, the emphasis is placed more heavily on summative assessments, with a 30% formative and 70% summative split.

The report also states that cumulative marks at the end of the secondary stage will be distributed as follows: 15% from Class 9, 20% from Class 10, 25% from Class 11, and 40% from Class 12. This approach underscores the importance of consistent performance throughout the secondary education years in determining final board results, according to DDN.
