In a significant development, the Nagpur Police Special Branch identified Jagdish Uikey, a 35-year-old resident of Gondia, Maharashtra, as the perpetrator behind a series of hoax bomb threats to airlines on Tuesday. Police confirmed that Uikey had previously been detained in connection with a 2021 case.
The investigation, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shweta Khedkar, uncovered links between Uikey and the fraudulent emails. According to the news outlet News 18, the suspect sent these messages to various government entities, including the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Railway Minister, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his deputy, airline offices, the Director General of Police (DGP), and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Heightened security measures were implemented on Monday at the residence of Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis after Uikey threatened via email to protest unless he was permitted to present information about a supposed secret terror code he claimed to have deciphered. He also requested a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss alleged terror threats, the news outlet reported.
