In an unprecedented move, the UT Sports Department has transferred 26 coaches at once, a decision that has left many in a difficult situation just before the peak competition season.
Sources within the department have indicated that the transfers followed a recent directive from the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), which classified four positions within the UT Education Department as ‘sensitive’. Although the CVC order specifically targeted the Education Department, the Sports Department chose to implement similar changes to preclude any potential controversy, according to a well-placed source.
Coaches have expressed frustration, asserting that the transfers selectively targeted certain individuals while those with strong connections retained their positions. “These transfers will significantly impact the trainees. Developing a player under a coach takes four to five years. If the department truly adhered to the CVC order, it should have been applied universally. Many coaches with support from officials continue to operate their centers. This disruption could have been postponed until the off-season,” commented an anonymous coach.
The reassignments affected various sports: five coaches from badminton, three from table tennis, four from lawn tennis, two from gymnastics, two from hockey, three from basketball, two from handball, two from cricket, two from squash, and one from weightlifting.
