Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hailed the Maha Kumbh as a profound reflection of India’s faith, spirituality, and cultural heritage, emphasizing its role as a unifying force that transcends social divisions. Speaking at Prayagraj, he described the festival as “a living identity of our collective consciousness” and “a Mahayagya of unity.” Modi recited Sanskrit verses to underline the spiritual significance of the Maha Kumbh, explaining that a holy dip at the Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati—holds the power to cleanse sins and is equivalent to visiting countless pilgrimage sites.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the festival, rooted in ancient traditions, has withstood the test of time and foreign rule because it is driven by an internal spiritual consciousness rather than external forces. He said the Maha Kumbh brings together millions from across India, creating a rare and powerful convergence of devotion, knowledge, and art.
“When people arrive at Maha Kumbh, whether saints, sages, or common citizens, they leave behind distinctions of caste and sect,” PM Modi remarked. “This is a celebration of oneness, exemplifying Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.”
He predicted that the upcoming Maha Kumbh in 2025 would further elevate India’s spiritual and cultural identity, gaining global attention for its sheer scale and unity.
During the event, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated multiple development projects worth ₹5,500 crore for Prayagraj. These initiatives include the Hanuman Corridor and Akshayvat Corridor, which aim to improve accessibility for devotees, as well as the redevelopment of Saraswati Koop.
Prime Minister also paid tribute to the workers, sanitation staff, and other contributors whose efforts have made the festival possible. He praised the scale of organization required to host millions of devotees daily during the 45-day event, calling it one of the largest gatherings in the world.
Reflecting on Prayagraj’s sacred significance, the Prime Minister referred to its mention in ancient scriptures like the Vedas and Puranas. He described it as more than a geographic site, calling it “a place where spirituality can be experienced.”
Modi expressed gratitude for his own experiences at Prayagraj, recalling his holy dip at the Sangam during a previous Kumbh. He said the ongoing and future development projects would enhance the city’s status as a major spiritual destination.
The Prime Minister concluded by extending his best wishes for the successful organization of the Maha Kumbh, which he described as a remarkable display of unity and devotion.
