Renowned Indian singer Arijit Singh has released a powerful new Bengali song titled “Aar Kobe,” echoing the collective demand for justice in response to the tragic rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar hospital. The song, whose title translates to “When will it end?” serves as a poignant reflection on the ongoing protests and the broader cry for transparency in handling such heinous crimes.
The lyrics of “Aar Kobe” encapsulate the deep despair and resilience of those fighting for justice in Kolkata. The translation of the song reveals the depth of its message:
“A mountain of unbearable injustice is piling up. They were silent amidst a thousand busynesses. So unaware, they didn’t notice. The wall behind them. Accepting everything as it comes. Naming it as fate. Some face untimely death; some are paralyzed and turned to stone in despair,” the news outlet IndiaTimes.com reported
Singh’s heartfelt words highlight the pervasive numbness and lack of empathy that often follow such tragedies. He remarked, “This issue is happening in my state, my country, my home,” underscoring the personal impact of the incident. Although he expressed feeling powerless due to his inability to join the protests physically, he stressed the importance of not letting these voices be silenced and urged unity in the pursuit of justice, the news outlet said.
