In a shocking and heartbreaking revelation, the family of a 31-year-old doctor who was raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was initially told that their daughter had died by suicide, according to media reports. The victim’s father told the media that he received a call from an official at the hospital’s chest medicine department, who informed him, “Your daughter has died by suicide.” the Mint reported.

However, when the family arrived at the hospital, they were confronted with a far more horrifying reality. The father noted that the official did not identify himself during the call, as reported by NDTV.

The family’s ordeal worsened when they pleaded with hospital authorities to see their daughter’s body. “After three hours, they allowed the father to go inside and see her body. He was only allowed to take a picture, which he showed us when he came outside. She had no clothes on her body. Her legs were 90 degrees apart… this cannot happen unless the pelvic girdle breaks, which means she was torn apart,” a relative recounted to Lallantop.

The case has also raised serious concerns among the victim’s colleagues, who reported sudden civil reconstruction work at the crime scene within the hospital. “We are deeply apprehensive about the motive behind such work and fear that it could hinder the investigation by potentially tampering with crucial evidence,” stated a letter signed by Dr. Koushik Chaki and Dr. Sanjoy Holme Chowdhury, as reported by Lallantop. “We have informed the state health secretary of our concerns. We urge you to address this matter with the seriousness it deserves to ensure justice for the slain doctor,” the letter further said.
