Jio vs Airtel: Plans Compared Post Tariff Hike

Bharti Airtel Ltd. raised mobile tariffs by 10% to 21% on Friday, following Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd.’s announcement of a tariff hike the previous day. This latest increase comes after both companies, along with Vodafone Idea, raised rates in Dec 2021.

With these new changes, consumers are keen to know how the revised plans stack up against each other. Here’s a comparison of the updated offerings from Jio and Airtel:

Jio’s Basic Plan, priced at ₹299/month, offers 2GB/day of data, unlimited voice calls, 100 SMS/day, and access to Jio apps. The Mid-Range Plan at ₹499/month provides 3GB/day, the same calling and SMS benefits, and a 1-year subscription to Disney+ Hotstar. The Premium Plan, costing ₹799/month, includes 4GB/day, unlimited calls, 100 SMS/day, and access to Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ Hotstar.

Airtel’s Basic Plan is priced at ₹319/month, offering 1.5GB/day of data, unlimited calls, 100 SMS/day, and access to Airtel Xstream. The Mid-Range Plan at ₹549/month includes 2.5GB/day, similar calling and SMS benefits, and a 1-year Amazon Prime subscription. Airtel’s Premium Plan, costing ₹839/month, provides 3.5GB/day, unlimited calls, 100 SMS/day, and access to Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ Hotstar.

Both telecom giants have included several value-added services and bundled subscriptions in their new plans to attract customers. As the market reacts to these changes, it remains to be seen how consumers will adjust their usage and plan preferences in response to the increased tariffs.
