PUNE, OCTOBER 26

External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar on Saturday attributed the success of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) patrolling agreement with China to a blend of military resilience and adept diplomatic efforts. Speaking with students in Pune, Jaishankar said that while progress has been made, it’s “still a little early” for relations with China to fully normalize. He emphasized that rebuilding trust and a cooperative spirit will take time.

“If today we have reached where we have,” he remarked, “it’s due to our steadfast resolve. The military endured unimaginable conditions at the LAC to defend the country, while diplomacy played its essential role,” he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi , during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan on Wednesday, emphasized that ensuring peace and stability along the India-China border, while building mutual trust and respect, must remain top priorities.
Both leaders had welcomed the recent agreement to fully disengage troops and resolve the 2020 border standoff. Modi emphasized that disputes must be handled carefully to prevent further tension. They agreed that Special Representatives on the boundary issue will meet soon to oversee the situation and pursue a fair resolution.

The two leaders had underscored that stable India-China relations are crucial for regional and global peace, contributing to a multi-polar world. They called for enhanced strategic communication and cooperation to address common developmental challenges.
