Chandigarh/Amritsar, October 10

In a major breakthrough against trans-border narcotic smuggling, Punjab’s Amritsar Commissionerate Police arrested three individuals, including two brothers and a jail warden, and seized 4.5 kg of heroin along with Rs 4.32 lakh in drug money, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav announced on Thursday. The brothers, Akashdeep Singh and Satwinderpal Singh, were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers using drones to transport drugs across the border. The jail warden, Gurmej Singh, was supplying heroin to inmates in the Central Jail Amritsar.

This operation followed the arrest of three other smugglers the previous day, from whom 5 kg of heroin and Rs 3.95 lakh were recovered. DGP Yadav said investigations are ongoing to trace the smuggling network’s links. Amritsar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar shared that acting on a tip-off, police teams arrested the brothers and, based on their confession, apprehended the jail warden. Further investigations are underway to identify the jail inmates involved in the operation.
