India urges Bangladesh to ensure safety, security of Hindus

India has urged Bangladesh to ensure the safety and security of Hindus, other minorities, and their places of worship, following reports of desecration and damages in recent months. In a reply submitted to the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs highlighted incidents reported in 2024, including an attack on a Puja mandap in Tantibazar, Dhaka, and a theft at the Jeshoreshwari Kali temple in Satkhira during Durga Puja.  The ministry said that India has conveyed its concerns to Bangladesh over these incidents.

“The primary responsibility for protecting the life and liberty of all citizens, including minorities, rests with the Government of Bangladesh,” the ministry emphasized. ” The Government has also called the Government of Bangladesh to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and all minorities and their places of worship,” the ministry further said in the statement.

India called for strengthened measures to safeguard religious harmony and ensure the security and Safety of minority communities and their cultural heritage in Bangladesh.
