India will square off against Malaysia in the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Junior Mixed Team Championship in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, following a second-place finish in Group C on Sunday.
Already through to the knockout stage, India rotated its entire lineup for the final group match against Indonesia. Key player Tanvi Sharma was rested from the girls’ singles, and new pairs were fielded in the mixed and men’s doubles. Dhruv Negi took on the responsibility of playing the boys’ singles match.
Despite a spirited effort, India succumbed to a 1-4 defeat, with Navya Kanderi, stepping in for Sharma, securing the only point by winning her girls’ singles match. She triumphed over Mutiara Puspitasari 21-19, 21-19.
In the opening match, the mixed doubles pair of Vansh Dev and Shravani Walekar were defeated by Taufik Aderya and Clairine Mulia with scores of 14-21, 16-21. Negi fought hard against Bueno Oktora but ultimately lost in three sets, 14-21, 21-11, The tie was decided after Bhargav Ram Arigela and Vishwa Tej Gobburu lost the boys’ doubles match 17-21, 15-21 to Anselmus Prasetya and Pulung Ramadhan.
