The government successfully evacuated 75 of its nationals from Syria on Monday, including 44 pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir stranded in Saida Zainab. The evacuees have crossed into Lebanon and are set to return to India on commercial flights. The operation, coordinated by Indian embassies in Damascus and Beirut, was prompted by security concerns and requests from Indians in the region.
“The Government of India prioritizes the safety of its citizens abroad,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. Remaining nationals in Syria have been urged to stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Damascus via an emergency helpline or email for updates. Officials assured continued monitoring of the situation to ensure the safety of Indian citizens.
