Former Haryana Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda has predicted a significant defeat for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the forthcoming Haryana assembly elections scheduled for October-November. In the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP secured 40 out of 90 seats, while Congress won 31. Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) garnered 10 seats, and Abhay Singh Chautala’s Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) won one seat.
Hooda drew attention to the Congress’s improved performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections, where the party won 5 out of 10 seats in Haryana, compared to none in 2019. He emphasized that this shift signals a declining trend for the BJP, whose seats halved in the Lok Sabha elections. “This time, the BJP’s seats have halved in the Lok Sabha elections, and it will be wiped out in the Assembly elections in Haryana,” Hooda stated during a press conference.
Supporting Hooda’s claims, Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan pointed out that the Congress is now leading in 46 assembly constituencies, while the BJP’s lead has dropped to 44. Bhan highlighted that the Congress’s vote share has increased by 15%, while the BJP’s has decreased by nearly 12%. “People have made up their minds. If these results in the Lok Sabha elections hold, we will win 70% of seats in the assembly,” Bhan confidently asserted.
Despite the optimism, the Congress faced a recent setback when sitting MLA Kiran Choudhry and her daughter Shruti joined the BJP. Nevertheless, Hooda remains confident, citing strong support from Haryana’s diverse communities and reiterating that the Congress will not form any alliances for the state elections. “The 36 biradaris have made up their minds that Congress is going to form the government,” Hooda affirmed.
Earlier this month, Hooda declared that the Congress is fully prepared for the assembly elections and expects to form the next government in Haryana with a substantial majority. Post abbreviation: Hooda predicts BJP’s defeat in upcoming Haryana assembly elections.
