Panchkula, October 17
The BJP made history today by forming its government for the third consecutive term in Haryana. Nayab Singh Saini was sworn in as Chief Minister for the second time at a grand ceremony in Panchkula, following the party’s best-ever performance in the recent Assembly elections.
Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Saini at Dussehra Ground. Saini, born in Ambala on January 25, 1970, holds a bachelor’s and law degree from BR Ambedkar Bihar University and Charan Singh University. He has been active in the BJP’s Haryana unit since 1996, starting as district general secretary of the youth wing in 2002 and later becoming district president of the Yuva Morcha in 2005. Saini previously served as the Lok Sabha MP from Kurukshetra and is regarded as a prominent OBC face for the party in the state.
After taking over as Chief Minister from Khattar, Saini led the BJP to a historic victory in the Haryana Assembly elections, defying exit poll predictions to win 48 of the 90 seats, thus ensuring a third consecutive term in power.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president JP Nadda, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
In addition to Saini, former Deputy Chief Minister Anil Vij and several MLAs, including Krishan Lal Panwar and Shruti Choudhary, were sworn in as ministers in the new cabinet. Other notable inductees included Arti Singh Rao (Ateli), Rajesh Nagar (Tigaon), Gaurav Gautam (Palwal), Arvind Kumar Sharma (Gohana), Shyam Singh Rana (Radaur), and Ranbir Singh Gangwa (Barwala), along with Rao Narbir Singh (Badshahpur), Mahipal Dhanda (Panipat), and Vipul Goel (Faridabad).
After the ceremony, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar expressed gratitude to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders and various state chief ministers and deputy chief ministers for their presence. “This is the first time since 1980 that any party has formed a government thrice in Haryana or any other state. It is only the BJP that has achieved this milestone in several states,” Khattar stated.
