The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has surpassed the previous fiscal year’s record-breaking Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of ₹4 lakh crore within just 10 months of FY 2024-25. As of January 23, 2025, GeM reported a GMV of ₹4.09 lakh crore, marking a 50% year-on-year growth. The services segment emerged as a key growth driver, contributing ₹2.54 lakh crore (62% of the total GMV), while the product segment accounted for ₹1.55 lakh crore (38%). The services segment grew nearly 100% over the same period last year, bolstered by the addition of 19 new service categories, including data centre operations, bulk email services, dark fibre leasing, and other specialized services.
The Ministry of Coal led the procurement efforts, with a transaction value of ₹1.63 lakh crore, placing over 320 high-value bids worth ₹42,000 crore for handling and transport services. Other top procurers included the ministries of Defence, Petroleum & Natural Gas, Power, and Steel. GeM has significantly expanded its offerings, facilitating procurement for diverse needs ranging from essential goods like stationery to advanced technology systems such as missile components. The platform processed a record 49,960 orders in a single day this fiscal year, reflecting its robust capacity for high-volume and complex transactions.
Since its inception, GeM has facilitated over 2.59 crore orders, amounting to a cumulative GMV of ₹11.64 lakh crore. It now serves an extensive network of 1.6 lakh+ government buyers and 22.5 lakh+ sellers and service providers. GeM’s success underscores its role in streamlining public procurement and fostering innovation in the sector. Its user-centric reforms and commitment to efficiency have cemented its position as an indispensable tool for government entities, driving India’s digital transformation in procurement processes.
