Punjab Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Singh Rouri on Tuesday administered the oath of office to 2,822 newly elected panches from 466 panchayats in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district during a grand district-level ceremony.
In his address, Rouri urged the newly elected panches to contribute to the prosperity, holistic development, and unity of their villages, emphasizing that active participation from the local leadership could drive progress. He reiterated the Punjab government’s commitment to supporting panchayats in their constructive initiatives under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Rouri also expressed satisfaction over the peaceful, fair, and transparent conduct of the panchayat elections in the district, and congratulated the district administration and residents for their efforts. He highlighted the importance of fulfilling the expectations of the people and said panchayats are the “pillars of democracy,” with decisions made at the local level being integral to the village community.
The Deputy Speaker further called on the newly elected panches to work on making their villages drug-free, ensuring environmental cleanliness, and promoting sustainable development. He also invited all panches, under the leadership of their sarpanches, to dedicate themselves to the task of village development.
The district administration honored Rouri with mementos for his role in the event, further emphasizing the significance of local leadership in driving government schemes at the grassroots level.
