Famous Indian-origin doctor shot dead in US

An Indian-origin doctor, Dr. Ramesh Babu Peramsetty, was shot dead on Friday in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Dr. Peramsetty was a renowned physician who operated several hospitals across the United States, according to the media reports.  Originally hailing from the Tirupati district in Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Ramesh was one of the founders and the medical director of the Crimson Care Network, a group of local medical professionals dedicated to providing quality healthcare services. He was highly respected for his significant contributions to the medical field and his dedicated practice in Tuscaloosa, the news outlet NDTV reported.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the Crimson Care Network Team said, “As many are aware at this moment, we have been informed of Dr. Ramesh Peramsetty’s passing. The Peramsetty family asks for us to give them privacy as they grieve his passing. They have received abundant outpouring of love and faith. We will continue to honor him as he would want us to do. Thank you for your understanding.”

Dr. Peramsetty’s impact on the community was profound, with a street in Tuscaloosa named in his honor to recognize his extensive contributions to medicine. He played a crucial role during the Covid-19 pandemic, undertaking extensive work that earned him several awards. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters, all of whom reside in the United States, the NDTV reported quoting the local newspapers.

Graduating from Sri Venkateswara Medical College in 1986 and furthering his education at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Peramsetty amassed 38 years of medical experience. He practiced in Tuscaloosa and four other locations, specializing in Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine, and was affiliated with the Diploma in Child Health (DCH) Regional Medical Center.
