President Droupadi Murmu strongly condemned the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, expressing her deep dismay and horror over the incident. “Enough is enough,” the President declared, emphasizing the urgent need for a societal overhaul to prevent such heinous crimes against women, the India Today reported, quoting the news agency PTI.
In her first public statement on the Kolkata rape and murder case, President Murmu voiced her support for the ongoing protests and called for swift justice. She reiterated the critical importance of changing societal attitudes towards women and ensuring their safety and dignity in all aspects of life.
President Murmu also pointed out that while students, doctors, and citizens were protesting in Kolkata, criminals continued to roam freely elsewhere. She asserted that “no civilized society can allow daughters and sisters to be subjected to such atrocities,” according to India Today.
