In a significant development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Haryana Congress MLA Surender Panwar on Saturday in connection with an illegal mining case. Incidentally, he was arrested just two days after the ED conducted searches at the premises of Rao Dan Singh, another Congress MLA from Mahendragarh.
Panwar, who represents Sonipat, operates mining businesses in Haryana and Rajasthan. His son was also questioned by the ED team that arrived at their residence on Saturday morning. The investigation pertains to multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) filed by the Haryana Police regarding illegal mining activities in Yamunanagar, Sonipat, and several other districts.
In January, the ED searched Panwar’s residence in Sonipat’s Sector 15 and multiple locations linked to former Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MLA Dilbag Singh. During these searches, the ED seized Rs 5 crore in cash, foreign-made arms, and 300 cartridges. Additionally, several incriminating documents suggesting money laundering were found at Panwar’s residence, leading to his arrest.
