Chandigarh, September 5
Former Deputy Chief Minister and JJP leader Dushyant Chautala on Thursday filed nomination papers from the Uchana Assembly segment. The Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) alliance yesterday announced a list of 19 candidates for the upcoming Haryana Assembly Elections 2024. Former Deputy Chief Minister and JJP leader Dushyant Chautala is set to contest from the Uchana constituency. Earlier, the JJP released a list of 15 candidates on Tuesday, while the ASP named four. Notable among the JJP candidates are Dushyant Chautala and Digvijay Chautala, with Digvijay contesting from Dabwali, the news outlet Mint reported.

Dushyant Chautala has announced his intention to file nomination papers for the Uchana seat on September 5, the first day of the nomination process. Chautala has previously criticized the BJP in Haryana, accusing them of “borrowing” candidates from other parties, following the defection of several JJP rebel MLAs to the BJP.

The JJP-ASP alliance, led by Chandra Shekhar Azad’s Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram), plans to contest all 90 Assembly seats, with JJP targeting 70 seats and ASP aiming for 20.

Recently, former JJP leaders Sunil Sangwan, Sanjay Kablana, and Devender Singh Babli joined the BJP, predicting a third term for the party in the state. The Haryana Assembly elections, featuring 90 seats, will take place on October 5, with the last date for nominations being September 12 and vote counting scheduled for October 8. Major parties, including BJP and Congress, are in the process of finalizing their candidates.
In the previous elections, JJP received 0.87% of the vote share in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and failed to win any seats. In the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections, the BJP won 40 seats and formed a coalition with the JJP, which secured 10 seats, while Congress won 31 seats. However, the BJP-JJP alliance dissolved earlier this year, the news outlet said.
