DMK’s Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Kanimozhi NVN Somu has raised concerns about the increase in dubious breast cancer drug trials in India. Highlighting the profound impact on patient safety and public trust in healthcare, she plans to present proof of these unethical practices to Union Health Minister JP Nadda in their upcoming meeting. Dr. Kanimozhi, a doctor herself, emphasized the need to address these issues to maintain the credibility of medical research and ensure patient safety.

Earlier this week, Dr. Kanimozhi spoke in the Rajya Sabha about a report by the Ethical Committee of the National Institute of Virology (NIV) detailing rising cases of dubious drug trials. She pointed out that a pharmaceutical company had conducted trials before procuring the gold standard drug, raising questions about the integrity of the trials and the effectiveness of the biosimilar product. She also noted the significant contributions of pharmaceutical companies through electoral bonds and urged the government to stop supporting unethical drug trials
