Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday highlighted ‘Dharma’ as the cornerstone of Indian culture, asserting it guides every aspect of life as both the path and the ultimate goal. Speaking at the ‘Namah Shivaya’ Parayan hosted by the Sringeri Sri Sharada Peetham for their Suvarna Bharati Mahotsava, Dhankhar said, “Sanatana embodies empathy, compassion, tolerance, non-violence, and inclusivity.”
At the event dubbed “Mantra Cosmopolis,” the Vice President described Vedic chanting as one of humanity’s oldest oral traditions, emphasizing its role in creating mental peace and environmental harmony through precise rhythms and vibrations. “The ancient practice preserves spiritual wisdom, serving as a bridge to our ancestors,” Dhankhar said, underlining the scientific rigor behind these intricate chants transmitted orally through generations.
Dhankhar also highlighted the unity in diversity as Indian culture’s defining characteristic, shaped by centuries of blended traditions, which foster values of humility and non-violence. “India stands unique in its inclusiveness, embodying ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ — the world as one family,” he said, recognizing the nation’s role as the birthplace of major religions like Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism, and Buddhism.
