The Indian National Congress is set to launch its “Haryana Maange Hisab” campaign today, targeting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the state elections in Haryana. The campaign will be initiated by Congress leader and Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Deepender Hooda in Karnal on July 15.
The Congress aims to hold the BJP accountable for its governance over the past years by visiting all 90 assembly constituencies in Haryana. Congress leaders and workers will highlight critical issues such as the increase in crime, unemployment, and farmers’ distress. The campaign will also involve public engagement, where party workers will discuss Congress’s proposals and solicit suggestions for the party’s manifesto.
Former Chief Minister of Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, stated on July 14 that Haryana, once a leader in per capita income, investment, employment, and welfare schemes, has now become a leader in unemployment, crime, drug addiction, and misery under BJP rule. Hooda emphasized that Congress workers will expose the BJP’s failures and shortcomings to the public.
The Congress will address the rise in crime and high unemployment rates under BJP rule. The party will also question why farmers’ incomes have not doubled as promised by the BJP. Additionally, the campaign will draw attention to the escalating issue of drug abuse in the state.
The “Haryana Maange Hisab” campaign will involve touring all 90 assembly seats of poll-bound Haryana, questioning the BJP over its governance. Congress workers will discuss their party’s plans and seek public input for the party’s manifesto. Hooda highlighted that under BJP rule, Haryana has become number one in unemployment, crime, drug addiction, and misery, a stark contrast to its previous status.
The 90-member Haryana assembly is set for elections later this year. In the 2019 assembly polls, the BJP emerged as the single largest party and formed a government in a post-poll alliance with the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and seven Independent MLAs. Manohar Lal Khattar and JJP President Dushyant Chautala were sworn in as Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, respectively, of the BJP-JJP alliance government. Manohar Lal Khattar is now a Union Minister, and the JJP has since withdrawn its support from the BJP. Nayab Saini was sworn in as Haryana CM in June this year.
