A passenger plane carrying 61 people has tragically crashed in São Paulo state, Brazil, with all passengers and crew losing their lives. Initially, the airline Voepass reported that 62 people were on board, but later confirmed the correct number as 61, consisting of 57 passengers and four crew members. Voepass stated that they are focusing on providing full support to the victims’ families and cooperating closely with authorities to determine the cause of the crash, according to The Guardian.

“There are no survivors,” Col. Emerson Massera of the Brazilian military police announced at the crash site in the city of Vinhedo. While the fire has been brought under control, approximately 50 firefighters are still working to cool down the area. “It’s a very sad scene; our work now is focused on clearing the area so that the investigation and identification of the bodies can proceed,” Massera added.

According to the BBC, authorities have retrieved the flight recorders, which will be critical in the investigation. ATR, the French-Italian manufacturer of the aircraft, has pledged to cooperate with the inquiry. The plane came down in a residential area, but fortunately, no one on the ground was injured. Only one home in a local condominium complex sustained damage. Video footage shows a large fire and smoking wreckage in an area densely populated with houses.
