New Delhi, October 1

Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Tuesday said that while the situation with China is stable, it remains sensitive and not normal. Speaking at the Chanakya Defence Dialogue, he emphasized that India seeks to restore the conditions along the border to how they were before April 2020, including restoring buffer zones and resuming patrolling.

Gen Dwivedi affirmed that until the pre-2020 conditions are restored, the situation will remain sensitive, and the Indian Army is fully prepared to handle any contingency. He said that “trust has become the biggest casualty” in relations with China.

Discussing China’s activities along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), such as constructing villages, Dwivedi remarked that while China is entitled to build within its territory, India is also developing model villages. He highlighted that the collaboration between the Indian Army, state governments, and central authorities will ensure even better development along the border.
