The remains of Commandant Rakesh Kumar Rana, the pilot of the Indian Coast Guard’s Advanced Light Helicopter MK-III that crash-landed last month, were recovered 55 km southwest of Porbandar. Rana, from Himachal Pradesh, was leading a medical evacuation mission when the helicopter made an emergency landing on September 2.

A massive search effort involving the Indian Coast Guard and Navy resulted in the recovery of Rana’s body on October 10, after 70 air sorties and multiple ship deployments. Three crew members’ bodies were recovered earlier, while one was rescued. Rana’s remains will be cremated with full honors.
