The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will decide the next Chief Minister of Haryana today, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan meeting with the state’s 48 newly elected MLAs. Saini remains the leading candidate, but senior BJP leaders Anil Vij and Rao Inderjit Singh are also in contention, sources said.
The meeting, to be held a day before the swearing-in ceremony, will finalise the Chief Minister and Cabinet ministers, ensuring representation from diverse community groups. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah, BJP President J.P. Nadda, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh are expected to attend the ceremony on October 17. Prime Minister Modi personally congratulated Saini after the BJP’s recent victory in Haryana, where the party won 48 out of 90 seats, highlighting the state’s growing role in India’s development.
