A nationwide strike, called by Dalit and Adivasi groups in protest against the Supreme Court’s verdict on sub-classification within Scheduled Castes, significantly impacted normal life in Bihar, Jharkhand, and tribal regions across several states, the news outlet The Tribune reported.
In Bihar, police used batons and water cannons to disperse protesters blocking roads and railways in districts like Patna, Dharbhanga, and Begusarai. Public transport services were partially disrupted in Jharkhand and Odisha, where schools remained closed and protesters burned tires, creating blockades.
The strike received support from several INDIA bloc parties and non-BJP groups, though the response was mixed in other regions. Chhattisgarh’s Congress unit urged the government to consider the protesters’ demands, while BJP leader Faggan Singh Kulaste accused the opposition of politicizing the issue.
