Avani Lekhara made history once again, becoming the first Indian woman to win two Paralympic gold medals with her triumph in the women’s 10m air rifle (SH1) event on August 30. “At just 22 years old, Avani’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. She has been wheelchair-bound since the age of 11, following a car accident that left her paralysed below the waist. Despite this, she became the first woman shooter from India to win medals at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021,” reported NDTV Sports.
The Indian para shooter set a new Paralympic record in the final with an impressive score of 249.7, surpassing the previous mark of 249.6, which she herself had established during her debut at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games exactly three years earlier.
