Amid rising violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, a petition has been filed in a Bangladesh High Court seeking a ban on the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). The move follows the arrest of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das and clashes between police and his supporters, according to Bangladesh Media reports.  Chinmoy Krishna Das, leader of the Sammilita Sanatani Jote, was detained on Monday near Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Supreme Court lawyer Moniruzzaman has also requested the imposition of a state of emergency in Chattogram and Rangpur to prevent further unrest.

In Chattogram, police arrested six individuals suspected of involvement in the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif during Tuesday’s court building clashes. Alif, 32, was killed as followers of Das protested a court’s decision to deny him bail in a sedition case. The violence injured at least 10 people, authorities said, Bangladesh based news outlet The Daily Star reported.

The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) identified suspects via video footage and detained 21 others for vandalism and assaults on police. Six members of the ruling Awami League and the outlawed Chhatra League were also arrested with homemade explosives. CMP said it had detained 30 individuals overnight in connection with the incidents.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) voiced concern over Das’s arrest, highlighting broader attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal condemned ongoing violence, including arson, looting, and temple desecrations, calling for the safety of minorities and their right to peaceful protest.

“We urge Bangladesh authorities to protect all minorities and ensure justice for perpetrators of violence,” Jaiswal said.
