Chandigarh, December 2

Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Chandigarh on Monday evening, followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on  December 3, to review the implementation of three newly introduced criminal laws aimed at modernising India’s justice system. Chandigarh holds the distinction of being the first city in India to achieve 100% implementation of the new laws.

The event, scheduled at Punjab Engineering College (PEC) in Sector 12, will include discussions on enforcement, judicial procedures, and evidence management. Newly recruited Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from across the country are expected to attend, with Chandigarh Police presenting insights into integrating technology with law enforcement. Officials anticipate over 5,000 attendees during the Prime Minister’s three-hour visit.

The UT Administration has declared Chandigarh a “no-flying zone” from December 2 to 3.

The Traffic restrictions will be in place in Chandigarh on Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon to ensure smooth movement during the visit of Prime Minister and Home Minister. According to a traffic advisory issued by UT police, diversions will be enforced on December 2 from 8:15 pm to 9:30 pm at key intersections, including Dakshin Marg at Airport Light Point, Hallo Majra Lights, Tribune Chowk, and Iron Market Chowk. Other affected areas include Gurdwara Chowk, Labour Chowks, and Hira Singh Chowk along Sarovar Path.

On December 3, additional restrictions will apply from 11 am to 3:30 pm along Vigyan Path, PEC Light Point, and intersections near Sectors 2, 3, 9, and 10. Residents have been urged to follow designated routes and avoid affected areas during the VVIP movements. Police officials have assured that measures are in place to minimize inconvenience to commuters.
