Canada’s Federal Transport Minister Anita Anand announced that, “out of an abundance of caution,” her ministry will implement additional security measures for travelers heading to India. In a statement, Anand confirmed that temporary extra security screenings have been introduced for passengers flying to India, potentially causing delays, the Canada-based news outlet CBC reported.
The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), which is responsible for passenger and baggage screening, will conduct the enhanced measures. Among the procedures are hand swabs, carry-on bag X-ray screenings, and physical passenger checks, the news outlet further said. The move follows heightened concerns after a bomb scare last month forced an Air India flight from New Delhi to Chicago to be diverted to Iqaluit, though no explosives were found.
