Balluana, December 5
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann inaugurated the region’s first government college, the Government Degree College Sukhchain, in Balluana, Fazilka district, marking a significant boost to local education after 77 years of independence. The initiative aims to address the region’s educational gaps and provide opportunities, particularly for girls. Mann criticized previous governments for neglecting the area’s development, emphasizing the college’s role in enhancing access to education and improving quality of life. He also accused Akali leaders of failing to deliver on their promises, while underscoring AAP’s focus on key sectors like education, health, and infrastructure.
Addressing the crowd, Mann highlighted the state government’s efforts to transform the education sector, including the establishment of Schools of Eminence and improvements in government-run schools. He credited these efforts with enabling students to excel in competitive exams like JEE.
The CM also focused on job creation, with 50,000 jobs already provided to Punjab’s youth through a transparent recruitment process. Additionally, he announced that Dangar Khera village in Balluana could soon be renamed “Adhyapak Khera” in recognition of the employment opportunities it has received.
Mann reaffirmed the government’s commitment to girls’ education as vital to women’s empowerment, announcing that nine teacher positions had been sanctioned for the new college, with more to come as student enrollment grows.
In his speech, Mann also assured the completion of a water and sewerage project in Abohar to meet future needs and praised the Bishnoi Community for preserving cultural traditions. The new college, established at a cost of ₹15.50 crore, is expected to become a hub of educational excellence in the region.
