INDIA Bloc to Stage Protests Over Deteriorating Law and Order in Bihar

The opposition INDIA bloc in Bihar has announced a state-wide protest to address the worsening law and order situation. The announcement came during a joint press conference of the alliance partners on Wednesday. RJD state party chief Jagadanand Singh criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for remaining silent amidst the rising crimes such as murder, kidnapping, extortion, and rape.

“We will organize a protest march on July 20 across the state against rising crimes in Bihar. This issue will also be raised in the assembly during the upcoming monsoon session,” Singh declared.

The INDIA bloc, which consists of multiple opposition parties, aims to highlight the severity of the situation and pressure the state government into taking concrete actions. Singh further emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “The law and order situation has completely collapsed in the state. Every day, Bihar is witnessing cases of murder, kidnapping, extortion, rape, etc. Why is Chief Minister Nitish Kumar maintaining a stoic silence on the current situation?”

Leader of Opposition in the assembly and senior RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav also condemned the state government. He pointed to several recent violent incidents as evidence of the deteriorating law and order situation. “Bihar witnessed several incidents that expose the current law and order situation. For instance, a husband and wife were brutally murdered by stabbing in East Champaran, there was a triple murder in Saran where a father and his two minor daughters were killed, and a young man and woman were murdered in Marhaura (Saran),” Yadav claimed in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

The opposition has been particularly vocal about the gruesome murder of former minister Mukesh Sahni’s father in Darbhanga. They have also raised concerns about the triple murder in Saran. In response to the criticisms, the police issued a statement late on Wednesday claiming to have solved the murder of Mukesh Sahni’s father. The prime suspect has been arrested and confessed to the crime. Additionally, two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the triple murder in Saran.

Despite these arrests, the opposition remains unsatisfied with the state’s handling of law and order. The INDIA bloc believes that these incidents are indicative of a broader systemic failure that requires immediate and comprehensive intervention. The planned protest on July 20 is expected to draw significant attention to the issue.

The INDIA bloc hopes that by bringing public and political pressure to bear, they can compel the state government to take more effective measures to ensure the safety and security of Bihar’s residents. The opposition also plans to raise these concerns in the assembly during the upcoming monsoon session, aiming to hold the government accountable for the rising crime rates and the overall collapse of law and order in the state.
